Wedding Wear Don’ts

The bridal party has their outfits sorted. But what about the guests? There are so many thoughts on what makes for appropriate wedding wear, especially if the ceremony is casual, black-tie, or anything in between. Birkat Elyon is in the business of beautiful cubic zirconia jewelry (including engagement and wedding rings) and has these tips for picking the perfect outfit as a guest.

Let’s start with colors. Unless it’s specifically OK’d, wearing white is…tacky. That color is meant for the bride. Red makes you look like you’re wanting attention. Black is OK in some cases (again, if the dress code states it), otherwise you might look like you’re at a funeral. Of course, no matter what you wear, spruce it up with some elegant CZ jewelry!

Next, think of the style of your dress. Again, the dress code comes in handy as a reference point. If it’s a formal affair, you need to step it up a little over your usual go-to “nice” dress. If the wedding is semi-formal, showing up in an evening gown is a big faux pas. Also, keep in mind any religious notes: some ceremonies require women to keep their shoulders covered or not show too much leg.  On a similar note, hats. Hats for women can be fun, but again, consider the dress code, type of ceremony, and more. Etiquette says it should be removed indoors, especially if you’re in a church.

One thing that can add some sophisticated sparkle to any outfit is an elegant piece of beautiful cubic zirconia jewelry, from earrings to pendants and more.

Now, let’s talk pants. Elegant pantsuits for women are becoming more acceptable as wedding wear. For men, stick to pleated dress pants or crisp chinos. Unless it’s super casual, wearing jeans or shorts to a wedding is a no-go.

Regarding shoes, more women are opting for comfortable flats, even at formal weddings. For men, loafers are generally fine, unless the wedding is formal; in that case, lace-up shoes like oxfords are a solid pick. And it goes without saying that sneakers and flip-flops are out.

But whatever you choose to wear, make it comfortable enough to dance and celebrate in!
