She may have come in like a wrecking ball, but it seems she came back like a cleanup crew. That maybe doesn’t have quite the same ring to it as the song, but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong. This past January, Miley Cyrus fueled a whirlwind of rumors that the pop singer and actor Liam Hemmsworth were back together again after a lengthy separation. It was then that Miley was seen at New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport wearing a huge diamond ring on her left hand. As if that wasn’t enough to kick off the rumor mill, Miley then took a silly photo of herself wearing the ring and posted it on Instagram and jokingly captioned it “I look like a ******* strawberry. #looklikemy*******momdressedmethisam #prettysureihadthissamelookat6.”
Since it was eventually confirmed that the couple was once again engaged, let’s take a look at everything we know about the stars’ relationship and their upcoming – hopefully for real this time – wedding.
The On-Again, Off-Again Ring
The most interesting thing about what she was wearing on her ring finger was the striking similarity it bore to the very same engagement ring Liam gave her all the way back in March of 2012 when he proposed. The pair had called off their engagement in September 2013. Recounting the breakup, Liam told GQ Australia that “Of course it was hard. But at the time we were going in different directions and it’s just what needed to happen.”
Throughout the first half of 2016, Liam was pretty quiet about the rumors that he and Miley had almost certainly reconciled and gotten engaged again, but he broke that silence in June. “People will figure it out, they already have,” he told Life and Style when asked about the status of the relationship. “They’re not dumb.”
Some fans were a bit negative about the couple’s reconciliation. But Liam isn’t worrying about that and is instead focusing on his happiness. Good for him!
“I don’t read or listen to the press — and these days I don’t base my decisions on it at all,” he continued. “I base all my decisions on what’s happening in front of me and I’m much happier by doing that,” he said.
“I guess when I feel something, then I just feel it and I go for it. I make my decisions about what’s going to make me happy, what I think is right and what I want to do – and I don’t worry too much outside of that.”
The Wedding Planning
A source tipped Us Weekly off to the fact that Miley was already making wedding plans at least as far back as April, well before the re-engagement was publicly confirmed. The source was quoted as saying Miley “wants a summer wedding” and that she’s getting help planning it from her mother, Tish.
Of course, it’s always difficult to parse out what exactly is fact versus fiction when it comes to these reports from anonymous sources. Case in point, another source said “It’s possible they’ll just run off to Vegas and tie the knot!”
In any case, that same source insisted the two were doing very well. “They live together and are very serious. They’re very much together.”
The Honeymoon
We don’t even know for sure what the wedding is going to be like or when it’s going to be yet (more scuttlebutt on that in a bit), but we do know Miley already planned and canceled a honeymoon. A source told Us Weekly just a few weeks ago that Miley had everything booked for a Bora Bora honeymoon, but called it off.
“They had the entire trip planned, but Miley just decided she didn’t want to go there anymore,” explained the source. “They have yet to pick a new locale.”
The Wedding Location
Backing things up a bit, Miley and Liam are still trying to figure out when and where they’re getting married. Miley has been “very erratic with her decision-making,” a friend told Us Weekly. But she’s currently said to be leaning toward a fall wedding at an unknown destination.
The only thing she’s sure about? She doesn’t want a big, huge wedding. Of course, that could be difficult, because Liam is thinking the complete opposite. “Miley is pretty adamant about having a small, private ceremony,” says the inside source. “But Liam wants a really big wedding, so I’m sure they’ll come to a compromise.”
