Simple Ways To Save Money On Your Wedding

Your wedding is probably the biggest party you’ll ever throw (except maybe for your silver or gold anniversary!). You want it to be perfect, of course – but smart couples also don’t want to break the bank. At Birkat Elyon, we’ve worked with hundreds of couples, providing them with dazzling, high-quality (and affordable) cubic zirconia wedding rings. Being part of the “bridal business” for all these years, we’ve picked up some helpful tips on how to save money and still have a memorable ceremony.

KEEP THE GUEST LIST SMALL-ISH

Yes, we know this can be a tough one. But trimming your guest list is the simplest way to keep costs under control, from the catering to invitations to the size of the venue.

SINGLE PAGE INVITES

You’ll save on postage by using smaller, flat single-page invitations.

AVOID SATURDAYS

Saturday is THE most popular day for a wedding reception and the competition for venues is fierce – thus, more expensive. Consider a Friday or a Sunday – or any other day, for that matter. It may be a little less convenient for some guests, but you’ll save big.

DO A COCKTAIL HOUR RECEPTION

More brides are finding that a longer cocktail hour reception with passed appetizers goes over better than a sit-down dinner. And the added savings makes it even more delicious.

SIMPLIFY THE BAR MENU

A cash bar is tacky, but it’s totally fine to limit what you offer. Beer and wine, with one or two signature cocktails, is simple, saves money, and keeps everyone in the party spirit.

CHOOSE GREENERY

Garlands of lush greens are popular right now. Draping them over the altar and your tables, etc. makes an elegant statement and is far less expensive than using flowers.

USE LOCAL, SEASONAL FLOWERS

If you want something like tulips in December, you’re gonna pay a fortune. Instead, work with what’s readily available. You can still have gorgeous (and fresher) floral accents, and the added “green” you’re saving will make them even more beautiful.

STICK TO ONE VENUE

Having both your ceremony and reception in one place saves money on travel costs for vendors who typically charge by the hour.

ORDER A SMALL CAKE

Have a gorgeous cake with only one or two tiers for the all-important “cutting of” ceremony but supplement it with a large sheet cake hidden in the kitchen for your guests. Another note: the more complicated the embellishments on your cake, the more expensive it will be. Keep it simple and elegant.
