5 Celebrity Engagement Rings

Celebrity couples are just like us (sort of). They fall in love and decide to put a ring on it. The only difference is, they tend to choose bigger, more extravagant pieces. Well, sometimes. Celebrity engagement and wedding rings can range from delicate and simple, to extravagant and eye-popping (the better to sparkle on Instagram). The styles of rings chosen by our favorite celebrity couples are affected not just by their relationship and sentiment, but by trends.

Here are five famous couples and the engagement rings that they chose. Just remember though, you can find equally-dazzling rings at Birkat Elyon. Because they’re high-quality cubic zirconia, you’ll pay a lot less (and no one will ever know…!) And here’s a secret: plenty of celebrities choose the kind of CZ rings we offer because they’re gorgeous, and don’t cost as much.

GEORGE AND AMAL CLOONEY

George Clooney was long one of Hollywood’s most eligible (and marriage-averse) bachelors. But lawyer Amal Alamuddin caught his eye, and he proposed in 2014. His ring choice? An emerald-cut diamond ring of over 7 carats. But in keeping with both of their activist interests, the diamond was “ethically-mined.”

By the way, one big reason people choose quality cubic zirconia over diamonds is the fact that there are no ethical conflicts.

And FYI, Birkat Elyon offers a breathtaking 6-carat (and 9-carat) emerald-cut ring sure to catch the eye of the paparazzi.

PRINCE HARRY AND MEGHAN MARKLE (aka the Duke and Duchess of Sussex)

The love story between Princess Diana’s son and an American actress captivated us. When he finally proposed, he personally designed the ring. The band is yellow gold (Meghan’s’ favorite) with a large diamond in the center, which was sourced from Botswana, Africa being a place deeply meaningful to both of them. The finishing touch? Two small diamonds – one on either side – that once belonged to Diana. Harry says it’s a way to ensure this his mother stays alongside them during their journey together.

DAVID FOSTER AND KATHERINE MCPHEE

Foster is the Grammy-winning composer who was famously featured on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills before his marriage to Yolanda Hadid imploded. McPhee was the runner-up on the fifth season of American Idol (where he mentored her). Their relationship began as a working one but soon became a romance – despite the 34-year age difference. The couple says that their shared interest in the music industry is what bonds them. David proposed with an emerald-cut diamond with a pave’ band, which came with extra-sentiment: McPhee notes that she shared it with her late father, right before he passed away.

JOHN MELLENCAMP AND MEG RYAN

He once sang “I want a lover who won’t drive me crazy” – and he’s apparently found that in When Harry Met Sally star Meg Ryan. The two have been on and off again in recent years but finally made it official. In keeping with his “Small Town” Indiana roots, he proposed with a simple gold band set with a single solitaire diamond.

KIT HARINGTON AND ROSE LESLIE

They met in 2012 on the set of Game of Thrones (“You know nothing, Jon Snow…”) as he played the aforementioned “Jon Snow” and she played the Wildling “Ygritte.” While their on-screen romance ended tragically, real life is much happier. Sharp-eyed British tabloids spotted her wearing an engagement ring, a slender yellow band adorned by a gorgeous large, oval diamond. The couple married in mid-2018 in Scotland. Naturally, many of their GOT castmates were in attendance (minus the dragons).
