More of us are working from home these days – or at least, during part of the week. While it has some definite advantages, when both of you are doing your jobs in the same space, it can be…challenging. Birkat Elyon has worked with couples for years, providing them with high-quality cubic zirconia engagement and wedding rings. So here are some great tips for keeping your bond tight even when you’re together more than usual.
DESIGNATE WORKSPACES Naturally, this depends on the size of your living space. But even if one of you is working in the bedroom and one at the kitchen table, having that “me” area is a big help. You can each do what you have to do without getting in the way of the other.
USE YOUR INDOOR VOICE Be respectful and keep your voice at the same level you’d use in a theater. This includes when you’re on a call or a Zoom.
CREATE A ROUTINE When you work from home, it’s tempting to stay in your comfy clothes and get started on your day…whenever. But experts state how important it is to treat your remote workday as if you were at the office. This goes for your partner, as well. Having set times for starting/ending your day, as well as time for lunch, provides a structure you can both understand.
SHARE THE LOAD If you’re dealing with kids or other distractions, decide on who is going to do what and when ahead of time. Schedule it into your calendars. This is especially important if one of you has a big Zoom meeting or a heavy work deadline to meet. Support each other.
GIVE EACH OTHER ALONE TIME While working at home can be great on so many levels, even the most devoted couple needs a little space. Make sure you give it to each other, covering when one needs to go out for a walk, a trip to the bookstore, or just a coffee break.
SHARE A MEAL Take time from your workday to sit down with each other and reconnect over a real meal. Fight the urge to just mindlessly snack on a bag of chips at your desk during your lunch break; making an effort to eat together will strengthen your connection.
