How to Announce Your Engagement on Social Media

It’s a given that most of us spend a ton of time on social media. Besides sharing pictures of our food, we share happy moments, vacation snaps, and pretty much every piece of big news in our lives. So naturally, when you become engaged, the first thing you want to do is share it with your social peeps. Birkat Elyon is in the business of providing couples with the most gorgeous cubic zirconia engagement rings – and we have some helpful tips on making sure your social media announcements work for you, not against.

PUMP THE BRAKES

As excited as you are to show off that ring, don’t post anything until you’ve told your family and closest inner circle. For those not on social media, like your grandparents, a phone call or FaceTime is most appropriate. It would be easy for them to be offended if the rest of the world heard your news before they did.

KEEP IT PROFESSIONAL

We’re so used to putting up pics on the fly, but in this case, plan an engagement shoot. Think of social media as the equivalent of posting an old-school announcement in the newspaper. Take your time and plan it out. If you don’t want to pay for a pro, enlist a friend with a good camera.

CAPTION NO-NOs

Avoid wedding hashtags – this just invites a LOT of spam. Also, don’t make promises, like “everyone’s invited” or tag friends inviting them to be bridesmaids (things can change in your wedding party). Don’t say anything negative towards an ex. Most importantly, do NOT ask for money. That is just seriously tacky and inappropriate.

TAKE THE PERFECT RING SELFIE

When it comes to showing off your beautiful engagement ring (and Birkat Elyon has a huge selection of dazzling CZ engagement rings), start with a location that’s meaningful: your hometown, where you had your first date, or where the proposal happened. You might also style the shoot using the same color scheme or theme that you’re planning for your wedding, to give the whole event a nice, organized feel.

FEEL FREE TO KEEP SOME THINGS PRIVATE
Some couples worry that if they’ve posted an engagement announcement on social media, they’ll also need to post wedding photos. The rule? There are no rules. Don’t let social media dominate this special moment; you’re free to post as much – or as little –as you like.
