Planning a wedding is fun and exciting, but it also includes many landmines that can go off at any time. Since the 1980s, Birkat Elyon has worked with hundreds of couples, providing them with gorgeous cubic zirconia engagement and wedding rings. We’ve heard it all, so here are our tips for navigating some of the most common fights that happen around wedding planning.
MONEY
This is the Big One for most couples. Deciding how much to spend on the celebration and who will be responsible for what creates a lot of stress. It’s essential to establish a budget early on in the planning and focus only on those elements that are the “musts” on your list. Note: one smart move being made by many couples today is opting for a CZ wedding ring over real diamonds. They’re virtually indistinguishable and far more affordable!
TRADITIONS
It’s a given that someone in your family group may be disappointed that you’re not following certain established traditions for your wedding. Have an honest conversation with them about your wishes, and – if you can – find a compromise.
GUEST LIST
This can be tricky, especially if your in-laws insist on inviting certain people that may affect the head count (and your budget). Be firm about your budget but work to distribute the guests evenly between you and your partner’s families.
WHO DOES WHAT
Planning a wedding involves lots of details and it’s all too easy for one person to feel like they’re doing most of the heavy lifting. Avoid this particular fight by sitting down early on and going over the “to do” list. Focus on the details and aspects of the wedding that each of you most care about and divide the list accordingly.
In the end, remember that your wedding is about celebrating your commitment to each other. Don’t get bogged down in the petty arguments; keep your eye on the prize, which is enjoying a wonderful occasion!
