In all the hoopla surrounding the actual wedding, planning the rehearsal dinner is easy to put way down the “to-do” list. But it plays a more important role than you might think and can help set the tone for a perfect event. Birkat Elyon is in the business of providing couples with beautiful CZ engagement and wedding rings; we’ve got expert tips for making this part of your wedding celebration seamless.
DON’T WAIT
Even though the rehearsal dinner is a pretty laid-back affair, don’t put off making the arrangements. That can make it harder to find a venue and also adds unnecessary stress. Book your place nine months ahead (minimum). Six months before the Big Day, finalize your guest list and menu. Two months out, mail the invitations and track the RSVPs.
DON’T NEGLECT OUT-OF-TOWNERS
Rehearsal dinners typically include family and members of the wedding party. But it’s a nice gesture to include those coming to the wedding from out of town, as a way to thank them for their time and effort. Of course, if yours is a destination wedding where almost everyone is from “out of town,” consider throwing a small party for guests after the dinner itself.
DON’T JUST “WING” THE BUDGET
In days gone by, the groom’s parents paid for the rehearsal dinner. But times have changed and today, the couple often covers the cost. For that reason, it’s smart to allocate part of your wedding budget to this event. A lot of factors may influence the final tally, but a ballpark average runs about $1,350.
DON’T OVERLOOK DIETARY ISSUES
It’s a thoughtful idea to provide a place on your rehearsal dinner RSVP card for your guests to note any diet restrictions. You can also offer a vegan or vegetarian entree as well as gluten and dairy-free options.
DON’T SKIP THE LITTLE DETAILS
Little things can make the difference between a truly enjoyable rehearsal dinner and an awkward evening. For example, let guests know when the dinner is scheduled to begin rather than having those not involved in the ceremony wander around waiting. Also, place cards allow you to put people together who will best enjoy each other’s company and conversation.
