Jennifer Aniston’s Secret Wedding

So no one told you life was gonna’ be this way.

Your job’s a joke, you’re broke, your love life’s D.O.A.

It’s like you’re always stuck in second gear.

When it hasn’t been your day, your week, your month, or even your year… I’ll be there for you!

Ahem, sorry about that, but with Jennifer Aniston getting married we couldn’t help but think of the theme song from the show that made her famous. Though she’s since become a big movie star, we’ll always remember her most for her time on Friends.

In any case, Jennifer Aniston wed actor/director/screenwriter Justin Theroux earlier this month and managed to keep it not just a private wedding, but a secret one. “We had a beautiful, private wedding,” she said of the ceremony.

The Cast

It was so private, in fact, that not even all of Aniston’s former Friends co-stars got an invite to the nuptials. Matt LeBlanc, who played Joey on the seminal NBC sitcom, wasn’t on the guest list, but he’s nonetheless happy for Aniston and Theroux.

“I think they’re a great couple. I think she’s happy. And that’s all I care about is that Jen’s happy,” LeBlanc, 48, told People magazine on Monday at a Television Critics Association press event in Los Angeles. “If she wanted me there, I would have been there.”

Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow were among the reported 70-plus friends and family members in attendance, though. Speaking of which, even all these years later, the “friends” still pretty much consider themselves to be family.

“Jen’s like my little sister,” LeBlanc said. “Courteney [Cox] and Lisa [Kudrow] are like my big sisters, but Jen’s like my little sister. Matthew [Perry]’s like my little brother, and David [Schwimmer]’s like my big brother. That’s how it all broke down. And it’s literally just like chronological.”

Just like the rest of us, Matthew Perry was also caught off guard by the wedding. The actor known for his turn as Chandler wished Aniston well and said he was happy they made such a lovely couple and that they were able to have a secret wedding.

The Ring and the (Fake) Dress

Appearing in public for the first time since the wedding, Aniston showed up at the premiere of her latest movie, She’s Funny That Way, wearing her gorgeous wedding band. It’s a simple gold band encrusted with diamonds. It’s not flashy, just elegant.

In a somewhat less elegant display, the internet exploded a few weeks ago when an image of what was purportedly Aniston in her wedding dress started making the rounds. It turned out to be a fake, but that didn’t stop it from getting 300,000 Facebook shares.

The Ceremony

So, what happened at the actual wedding? Well, it’s hard to say. This really was a secret wedding, and despite the tabloids scrambling to ascertain them, there really aren’t many details.

Entertainment Tonight came right out and asked Aniston about it, but that didn’t really get them anywhere. “I’m not telling you about any of that stuff!” she said. “We had the beautiful luxury of having a beautiful, private moment. And I’m going to be selfish and keep it that way.”

Guests weren’t even allowed to bring their cell phones into the Bel-Air event and were forced to turn them over to security. Nevertheless, some info has snuck out. Jimmy Kimmel, a close friend of the couple, was asked to officiate the wedding, according to Howard Stern.

“Jimmy was the preacher,” Stern explained. “He did a beautiful job.”

Other big names joining Stern and Kimmel at the wedding were Orlando Bloom, Portia de Rossi, Ellen DeGeneres and Whitney Cummings. And of course Kudrow and Cox, the latter of which was the maid of honor and the last to leave, partying with the couple until 3:00 am.

Things were supposedly so secretive that many guests didn’t even know what was going on! A source told People magazine that guests were told it was a birthday party for Justin, only to be surprised as they arrived to a wedding instead.

The newlyweds jetted off to Bora Bora for their Honeymoon, but since the public still didn’t know about the wedding at the time, they told everyone they were going on a “two-year engagement anniversary trip” instead. The press bought it, too, with Glamour magazine going so far as to poke fun at the couple for having an engagement anniversary trip instead of staying home and planning their wedding. Whoops.
