Hollywood and designers’ runways often pave the way for the next everyday fashion trends. Yes, the stars and models of the world often dress to a level of excess that is neither practical nor affordable, but the examples they set still tend to trickle down to more practical versions of their often-outlandish garb. For summer 2015 it’s looking like that will be no different.
Following several seasons spent rocking enormous baubles meant to make statements, celebrities and fashion houses are downsizing a bit this summer. Thin, layered rings, skinny cuffs and rose gold items are just a few of the coming accessory trends this season. They may be a bit understated, but, when worn well, they’ll make for no less of an impact over the next few months.
So let’s take a look at some of this summer’s biggest trends according to celebrities and some of the biggest brands around.
Arm Cuffs
Want a look inspired by Selena Gomez? Try clinching a couple of arm cuffs higher up on your forearm. Or, if that’s not your thing, let them dangle off your wrists.
Ear Cuffs
Yep, more cuffs, but these ones are for your ears. The multiple piercings in your ear look may have gone out of style years ago, but following in the fashion industry’s typically cyclical nature, they’re about to make a comeback — a fake one, at least. Diane Kruger’s been spotted rocking two or three ear cuffs to give off the illusion of multiple piercings without actually committing to extra holes in her ear.
Midi Rings
Everything’s better in groups, right? Well, maybe not everything, but midi rings are certainly going to be this summer. Emulate Olga Kurylenko and try stacking up several sets of these diminutive bands on the same finger.
Rose Gold
Often overlooked in favor of white or yellow gold, rose gold is pretty and especially feminine. Runway models have been seen wearing rose gold watches to liven up their summer looks.
Chanel’s Fashion Riot
Chanel’s shown off silver and brightly colored leather bangles this season, and the fashion maker has cast them against the slogans “Make Fashion Not War” and “Ladies First.”
Louis Vuitton Goes Retro
Remember the ‘70s? Um, don’t worry, you don’t have to answer that — Louis Vuitton has already done so for you. The brand showed off glossy leather, high waists and denim flares at its spring/summer fashion show. But perhaps most strikingly was its shiny disk earrings that looked like a chic throwback to the age of disco and platform shoes.
Valentino’s Under the Sea
What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of summer? The beach, of course, and that wasn’t lost on Valentino this year. The designer’s spring and summer looks are full of nods to marine life: coral, sea urchins, shells and more are going to make for fun, stackable summer rings in 2015.
Dior’s Real Multiple Piercings
We already talked about the return of multiple (fake) piercings earlier, but Dior is trying to resurrect the real thing. Long tucked-back hair on its runway models framed ears pierced up and down. Chrome hoops near the lobe paired with statement earrings and, in some cases, even a third piercing were spotted on the runway.
Prada Marches to Its Own Beat
Prada usually likes to go its own way, and it did once again at its spring and summer fashion show. It deceived more than a few with what looked like fine jewelry pendant earrings but were actually crystal that had been finely worked.
Balmain Goes Tight
Looking for a good choker? Balmain has you covered this summer. The brand experimented with gold accents, transparency and constricted lines in a number of chokers on the runway.
Lanvin Polishes off Some Pearls
As we highlighted on the Birkat Elyon blog last month, pearls have been fashionable around the world for centuries. That hasn’t stopped Lanvin from putting a new twist on them — they took the traditional white pearl and hung it from a necklace on something that vaguely resembled an abacus.
Signature Gucci
Gucci couldn’t be confined to just a single color for its summer pieces. It gave suede jackets, fur, knotted scarves and double denim the multicolored treatment this season. In another example of the ‘70s making a comeback, Gucci resurrected iconic silver monogrammed bracelets.
Cubic Zirconia Jewelry
We’ve got one more bonus summer accessory recommendation for you: high-quality cubic zirconia jewelry! Birkat Elyon’s cubic zirconia jewelry is made using nothing but the highest grade Russian Formula cz on the market. Our precision-cut, hand-polished stones are as striking as they are affordable. And of course we set them only in pure platinum or 100 percent 14K or 18K white or yellow gold. Take a look at our many, many design options.
