You can smell it in the kitchen. You can hear it on the radio. You can see it at the mall. It\u2019s the holiday season! And maybe \u2013 just maybe, if you\u2019re lucky \u2013 it\u2019s another season for you. Maybe it\u2019s a season for romance, for committing to your special someone for now and always.<\/p>\n

If you know you\u2019ve found \u201cthe one,\u201d then why shouldn\u2019t now be the time to ask for your love\u2019s hand in marriage? All of your friends and family will be near; everyone\u2019s already going to be celebrating; and it\u2019s a time for gift giving. Stop waiting for the perfect moment, because that moment is right now. Here are five great ideas for giving the most special holiday gift you can give: a diamond or cubic zirconia engagement ring<\/a>!<\/p>\n

Involve the Family<\/strong><\/p>\n

You love your special someone more than anyone else in the world, right? Of course you do \u2013 you wouldn\u2019t be kicking around holiday engagement ideas if you didn\u2019t. But there are other people in your life you love too, like your closest friends and family members. They\u2019ve always been there for you, and they always will be, so why not make them a part of one of the most memorable moments of your life?<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not uncommon to bring all or part of the family together during or immediately after an engagement at any time of the year. Figuring out a good excuse to get your special someone together with the family and keeping your intentions secret can be tricky, though. Not so during the holidays \u2013 they\u2019re already going to get together to celebrate. Think about using the opportunity to make your move.<\/p>\n

Spell It Out<\/strong><\/p>\n

You\u2019re going to tell her why she\u2019s the one, and what it is you love about her, and at this stage of the game you should be more than able to figure out how to do that on your own. No matter how you approach it, though, there are still four words you\u2019re going to say: \u201cWill you marry me?\u201d<\/p>\n

The Knot<\/a> recommends you put a holiday twist on your proposal and write it in snow \u2013 weather permitting, of course \u2013 or a string of lights on the house. Yes, that last one\u2019s going to be tough to pull off without her noticing, but you can do it. We have faith in you. If you\u2019d like something with a bit more of a classic romantic feel to it, use flowers to spell your proposal out in the snow.<\/p>\n

Hang It Up<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you\u2019re celebrating Christmas, take advantage of that big, messy tree you shelled out for and lugged halfway across town. Have a custom ornament made with those four simple words on it or rely on a particularly sentimental ornament \u2013 consider getting your hands on the first ornament her parents got as a married couple, for instance \u2013 and use that to help segue into your proposal. If you really want to go all out, decorate the entire tree with ornaments commemorating your time together and write your proposal on the star that you secretly pull out of seemingly nowhere to cap it all off.<\/p>\n

An End and a Beginning<\/strong><\/p>\n

Make two time capsules, but instead of burying them in the ground for decades, give them to your love. Fill the first one with pictures and other mementos of the things you did as a couple during the year that\u2019s ending. Then put the ring in the second capsule and tell her how it\u2019s signifying the beginning of a new year and the rest of your lives together as a happily married couple.<\/p>\n

Count It Down<\/strong><\/p>\n

As the ball drops on New Year\u2019s Eve, you\u2019ll be holding your sweetheart tight and counting down the final seconds of the year. Surprise her by turning it into a countdown for your proposal. \u00a0Tell her just before the countdown that you want to say why you love her. On each number, give her a very<\/em> quick reason that you rehearsed beforehand. When the countdown is over and the New Year has begun, whisper in her ear\u2026well, you know what to say.<\/p>\n

Make It Your Own<\/strong><\/p>\n

Of course, we can\u2019t guarantee you that each and every one of these ideas is a surefire hit for you and the love of your life. Every relationship is different, and every person in a relationship is unique. What might seem silly to someone could be romantic and charming to someone else. What might be the perfect sentimental moment to some may seem clich\u00e9d or boring to others.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s impossible for us to know exactly what\u2019s best for you and your special someone this holiday season. Maybe you already know what the best way to bend your knee is, and it\u2019s something completely original. That\u2019s great if so.
